Vitamin A plus campaign begins in Khulna

The National Vitamin A plus campaign formally began on Sunday with a target to administer nearly 275000 babies with the capsule in the city in the district.
Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated the campaign at the Khalishpur Collegiate Girls School in the city as chief guest through administering Vitamin A plus capsule to a child, saying every child will be administered Vitamin A plus and all guardians must be aware of making the programme a success.
The mayor said present government has been working relentlessly to ensure health facilities, and child and maternal mortality rate have been reduced while percentage of immunization rate has been enhanced with united efforts.
He also said the main goal of the campaign is to maintain the prevalence of night blindness in children less than one percent through maintaining the high coverage of vitamin A supplementation among under five years children.
Speaking about the risk of public health the mayor said the COVID-19 pandemic is still persisting and everybody should maintain government health safety guidelines and other rules.
Councilor Munshi Abdul Wadud presided over the function while women councilor (reserved) Parveen Akter addressed as special guest.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KCC Palash Kanti Bala, Director of the Department of Health in Khulna division Dr Rasheda Sultana, Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed, KCC health officer A M Abdullah and UNICEF representative Dr Shahana, among others, addressed.
Later, KCC Mayor inaugurated the campaign through administering vitamin A plus capsule to a child.
A total of 31,923 babies under 6-11 months will be administered with a blue colour capsule while a total of 2,42,080 babies aged between 12 to 59 months will be administered with a red colour capsule in the city and district, the sources said.
