Vitamin ‘A’ Plus campaign begins

National Vitamin “A” Plus Campaign began today in the city and the district aimed at administering 13 lakh children under six to fifty nine months of age with the vitamin.
CCC mayor AJM Nasir Uddin formally inaugurated the day-long campaign at a function at city’s National Government Primary School, Nandankanon by administering capsules to some children this morning.
CCC mayor during his inaugural speech informed that CCC would continue the campaign till tomorrow in order to bring all the children under the campaign.
CCC chief health officer Dr Selim Akther Chowdhury, Raozan Upazila Chairman Ehsanul Haidar Chowdhury Babul, local ward councillor Shaibal Das Sumon and president of Chittagong Decorator Owners Association Mohamamd Sahab Uddin, among others, were present in the inaugural function.
The vaccination started from 8am and continued uninterruptedly till 4 pm under the supervision of over 650 supervisors including Commissioners of 41 wards of the CCC.
A total of 9849 temporary vaccination centres were set up by Chittagong Civil Surgeon office and all 200 unions of 14 upazilas in Chittagong while CCC set up 1324 temporary centres in its all 41 wards to carry out the programme.
District Civil Surgeon Office and CCC sources said several mobile teams consisting of health workers and volunteers have been engaged to feed oral vaccines to the children at rail, bus and launch terminals as well as slum areas.
Cleanliness drive begins in Rangamati town: With an aim to present a clean city before inhabitants and tourists, local administration started a cleanliness drive here recently.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Shamsul Arefin opened the drive officially at College Grate area on Wednesday morning. Among others, Mayor Saiful Islam Bhuttu, Upazila Chairman Arun Kanti Chakma, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Kamal Uddin, Secretary of District Scouts Md. Mostafa Kamal, Sadar Upazila Vice-Chairman Polash Kusum Chakma, Councillor Kalayan Chakma, social activist Mohsin Raza, President of Banarupa Merchants’ Association Md. Abu Syed, and officials, scout members and locals, attended the event.
“A clean city is not only the symbol of a beautiful area, but also protects the inhabitants from various infections and diseases. So, for our own safety we should keep our environment clean,” DC Md. ShamsulArefin said. He also urged the town dwellers to keep clean their houses and workplaces and also warned of taking legal actions in the case of committing any unhygienic situations around their establishments and any injurious act against the environment.
Mayor of Rangamati Municipality Saiful Islam Bhuttu urged the citizens to use dustbin for dumping their household garbage. He assured that Rangamati Municipality will work sincerely to keep the town neat and clean. Later, sweeping instruments like plastic bucket and shovel were distributed to the shopkeepers.
