Virus death toll tops 1,000; record surge in daily cases in Bangladesh

Bangladesh on Wednesday reported more 37 death from Covid-19, in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said it.
With this new fatalities, the death toll from the novel coronavirus infection in Bangladesh has crossed 1,000.
Meanwhile, 3190 people have tested positive of coronavirus infection in the same period, which is also the highest number of infections detected in 24 hours.
“The death toll is now stands at 1,012 and the latest cases take the total number of infections in the country is to 74,865,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of DGHS, said in a press briefing in Dhaka.
Dr. Sultana said that 15,965 samples were tested across the country in the same period.
Besides, 563 Covid-19 patients have recovered since yesterday, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,899, the DGHS official added.
Bangladesh has reported its first Covid-19 infection cases on March 8 and announced first death from the virus on March 18.
