Virus death toll tops 1,000 Highest 3,190 cases recorded in a day

Bangladesh on Wednesday reported more 37 deaths from Covid-19, in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
With these new fatalities, Bangladesh has crossed the 1,000 mark in death toll within 91 days as the country recorded its first death from the virus on March 18.
Meanwhile, the highest ever, 3,190 people have tested positive of coronavirus infection in the same period.
Bangladesh broke the record of highest number of infection with this in 24 hour’ period as the previous record was 3117 cases on Tuesday.
“The death toll now stands at 1,012 and the latest cases take the total number of infections in the country is to 74,865,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of DGHS, said in a press briefing in Dhaka.
Dr. Sultana said 55 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested the highest ever 15,965 samples in the last 24 hours.
The detection rate of new patients on Wednesday has been recorded at 1.91 percent, she added.
Besides, 563 Covid-19 patients have recovered since Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,899, the DGHS official added. According to the DGHS, against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.24 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.35 per cent in the country. Dr. Sultana said that among the deceased, 33 were males and four were females. Of the deceased, Dr. Sultana said, one was aged between 11 and 20 years, three between 31 and 40 years, five between 41 and 50, 10 between 51 and 60, 10 between 61 and 70, seven between 71 and 80 and another was aged between 81 and 90 years old.
She said that 25 patients died in Dhaka division, seven in Chattogram division, one in Rajshahi division, one in Sylhet division, two in Barishal division, and another died in Mymensingh division.
The DGHS official said that 25 people died at hospitals and 12 others died at home across the country.”
She said also that 538 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 188 were released. Currently, 8,243 people are in isolation across the country.
Dr. Nasima Sultana said that 3,156 people were home and institutionally quarantined and 2,083 were released in the last 24 hour period. At present 57,711 people are quarantined across the country, she added.
Bangladesh has reported its first Covid-19 infection cases on March 8 and announced first death from the virus on March 18.
