Virtual courts grant bails to 1013 prisoners

The virtual courts in 64 districts and metropolitan areas on Wednesday granted bail to 1013 prisoners, said a press release sent by Md Saifur Rahman, Special Officer of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.
Earlier on Tuesday, the online courts in 12 districts and metropolitan areas granted bail to 144
prisoners and they were also released from the jails.
He said that 1183 bail applications were filed through emails in the district and sessions judges’ courts across the country and 1013 persons got bail. 183 cases were filed through emails in the four high court benches on Wednesday and 11 were disposed of.
Countrywide Online courts started proceedings on a limited scale on Monday.
The chief justice on Sunday for the first time in the country empowered the Appellate Division Chamber judge and three High Court judges to hear the most urgent matters relating to writ petitions, bail appellations and civil and company cases through virtually during the long public holiday due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Similarly, the district and metropolitan sessions judges, special judges, speedy trial tribunals and women and children repression prevention tribunals, juvenile courts, the chief metropolitan magistrates and chief judicial magistrates were empowered to hear only bail applications during the public holidays.
