Md Joynal Abedin Khan :
Viqarunnisa Noon School and College’s examinations resumed on Friday amid the demonstration for release of the detained class teacher Hasna Hena who was arrested on charge of provoking the suicide of nine grader Aritree Adhikary.
Students took part in the examinations on the school campus on the Bailey Road after three days of protests surrounding the suicide being insulted by authorities concerned.
On Thursday, the agitating students and parents withdrew their protests upon assurance from the school authorities that their six-point demands would be fulfilled.
In the meantime, over 500 agitators, including present and ex students, guardians and teachers, on Friday demonstrated on school premises for release of Hasna Hena, the class teacher, who was arrested and sent to jail in the case filed over the suicide incident.
The demonstrators called for the unconditional release of the ‘innocent’ teacher and restoration of her reputation.
They said that Hasna Madam had no relation with the suicide of Aritree as she took her own life when Principal called for the girl’s parents and ‘humiliated them’ for use of mobile phone by Aritree in the examination hall.
The demonstrators stressed on doing justice and overlooking the emotion.”
Sangita Imam, a teacher of the school, said that they joined the demonstration with an emotional appeal as Hasna Hena is their colleague. Seeking anonymity, a student, who took to the streets to demand the release of teacher Hasna Hena, said that she was unfairly sent to prison over the death of Aritree.
Mina Rani, a guardian of 11-grader student, said, “Arrested Hasna madam is not involved with the suicide in anyway. Her name was not involved in the incident. I believe she is a victim of the current situation.”
Aritree Adhikary, who was allegedly caught cheating in the examination hall, hanged herself on Monday after watching her parents being subjected to insultation by the school authority.
The tragedy, according to many students and parents of the school, was a case of excesses on the part of the school authority when handling a case of alleged cheating in the annual examination.
It sparked a wave of outrage inside the school and outside, compelling students to demonstrate on the campus for three days demanding justice.
