Food Minister Quamrul Islam on Tuesday warned that law enforcement agencies will come up with proper response to BNP if it launches violent programmes in the name of movement.
He said this at a discussion, titled ‘Sheikh Kamal’s 65th Birthday’, organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at Shilpakala Academy in the city.
The minister said, “Law enforcement agencies’ duty is to protect public property. So, if any one tries to vandalise public property, they won’t stay silent, but give the proper reply.”
“BNP has said they’ll come up with a movement after Eid. But after announcing the movement, BNP leaders are now sleeping and holding news briefings in the party office,” quipped Qamrul.
He further said, “When a BNP leader briefs in the party office, there’ s no other leader; not even ants.”
The Food Minister said August is the month of mourning and Khaleda Zia should be mindful about the significance of the month.
Cutting cakes on August 15 gives Khaleda Zia a repulsive and monstrous look, Quamrul observed adding that she should stop observing her birthday on the Notional Mourning Day.
