`Violence against women causes loss to society`

Violence including the domestic ones against women is not only a loss to the victim but also to society and the nation as well, said speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi yesterday.
Stopping violence against women has become an urgent need for freeing the society from the great loss together with achieving peace and prosperity in the society and nation. Population Services and Training Centre (PSTC) under its ‘She-Can Project’ organized the meeting titled “Prevention Violence against Women” at a city restaurant in association with UK-Aid and Action Aid Bangladesh.
Mayor-in-Charge of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Nizam-Ul Azim and its Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with local unit president of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Kolpona Roy in the chair.
During her concept paper presentation, Shiropa Kulsum, Project Coordinator of PSTC, illustrated various forms of violence against women putting forward a set of recommendations on how to combat the social crimes.
She emphasized the need for depicting the matter relating to the financial loss caused due to violence against women. Campaign Officer of She-Can Project Shamsun Nahar welcomed the participants.
RCC Ward Councilor Bilkish Banu, Officer-in-Charge of Shah Mukhdum Police Station Zillur Rahman and OCC Coordinator Dr Amena Khatun and its Medical Officer Dr Biplob Chowdhury also spoke.
