After three decades of sufferings, people of Satpua Union in Sarishabari Upazila in the district constructed a wooden bridge over a branch of the Jamuna River to abate their woes during the monsoon.
People of Char Sharishabari village are providing voluntary labour and the total cost of construction to build a wooden bridge on a 320-metre wide river.
During a recent visit to the construction site, our correspondent found the villagers working tirelessly to build the structure. The initiative has been taken by UP number Alom. “I am very happy to be a part of this great initiative. The bridge will lessen long-standing sufferings of villagers,” he told this correspondent. Around 5 thousands students will be benefited who have to come to Sarishabari regularly crossing the river with a view to attending colleges, high schools and primary school .
The other commuters, including farmers, office and markets goers,patients will also be banefited, he added.
About 80 percent of the work is done while the rest was expected to be completed before the beginning of monsoon, he said
