Programmes finalised to observe V- Day in Rangpur

The district administration in association with other organisations have finalised elaborate
programmes to observe the Victory Day- 2015 on December 16 next in the city and elsewhere in the district.
The administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RCC), Awami League (AL), other political parties, socio-cultural and professional organisations, educational institutions and Freedom Fighters have taken programmes to observe the day.
The Day will be observed with a renewed promise for working unitedly to make the hard-earned independence meaningful for every citizen through realising dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The day’s programmes will begin at zero hours after midnight on December 15 with 31-gun salute and placing wreaths at Central Shaheed Minar and Swadhinota Smritistambha ‘Arjan’ to pay rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.
City Mayor Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, Acting DIG Humayun Kabir, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar and Police Super Abdur Razzaque will first place wreaths there.
District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, General Secretary of district AL Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi, leaders of different political parties will place wreaths there.
Later, heads of different government and non-government departments and organisations, socio-cultural and professional bodies and common people will continue placing floral wreaths with due patriotic zeal till the morning on December 16.
The programmes also include hoisting of the national flags atop all public and private buildings, illumination and decoration of the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings with national flags and coloured miniature posters and banners.
The Divisional Commissioner will hoist the national flag and take salute at the march-past and displays by freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, jail guards, boys scout, girls guide, Fire Service and Civil Defense, children and students at Rangpur Stadium at 9 am.
Veteran freedom fighters and relatives of the martyred freedom fighters will be accorded receptions and the main discussion meeting will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar premises on the Public Library compound marking the Victory Day.
Drawing competitions for the children on the War of Liberation, shooting competition, special sports competitions for the women, essay competitions, charity football match, cultural functions and prize giving ceremony will be organised.
Improved diets will be served to inmates of different hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, shishu paribars and orphanages.
Elaborate V-Day progs chalked out in Faridpur

An elaborate program has been chalked out in connection with the observance of the ensuing victory day across the district on December 16 in a meeting held yesterday at the conference of Deputy Commissioner chaired by DC Sardar Sharafat Ali.
The program of the day will begin with 31 guns salute to be held at local police line. It will be followed by hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings.
Floral wreaths will be placed at the martyred memorial altar located at Goalchamat area of the town followed by a victory procession which will parade the main through fares and will end up at the stadium.
The programme includes offering special prayers at the mass grave of the liberation war martyrs located on the southern side of the stadium.
Patuakhali Free Day observed

Heroic sons of the soil on this day in 1971 freed Patuakhali district from the clutches of Pakistan occupation forces.
Marking the day, freedom fighters in Patuakhali district unit of Mukhjoddha Sangsad arranged day long programme to observe the Day. Accordance to the programme, national flag was raised in front of Muktijoddha Sangsad Complex in Patuakhai district town early in the day. At about 9 am, a colourful rally was brought from the Muktijoddha Complex and ended at the same place after parading the main streets in the town.
A discussion meeting also was organised at about 10 am at the auditorium of the complex where Kazi Alamgir Hossain would be in the chair. Freedom fighters from different areas in the district would be took part in the programme.
After the declaration of independence on March 26, 1971, several battles took place in the district. On April 26, Pakistani army with the help of ‘peace committee’ men killed scores of people, tortured women and looted several hundred houses in the district town.
The freedom fighters set up camps at Patuakhali Women College under the leadership of Nurul Huda, commander for Patuakhali sub-sector, to resist the occupation forces.
Abdul Awal, the then DC of Patuakhali handed over rifles to freedom fighters from the store house of local police lines. Later on the Pakistani army killed the DC for helping the FFs.
Face-to-face fight took place between freedom fighters and Pakistani forces at Panpatti village on November 18. At one stage, Pak troops retreated after the day-long fight.
In the last week of November in 1971, freedom fighters entered Patuakhali town.
