The Victory Day Wrestling competition began on Sunday at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium in the city, said a press release.
On the first day of the competition, 16 quarterfinal matches of both men’s and women’s weight categories were held. With Ismat Ara of Bangladesh Army, Rehana of Bangladesh Ansar Happy of Bangladesh Army confirmed their semi-final sport from women’s category.
On the other hand, Mejbah of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ronju of BGB and Rajib of Bangladesh Army moved into the semi-final eliminating their respective rivals in the men’s category.
Near about two hundred men’s and women’s wrestlers from different services teams, clubs and districts across the country arel taking part in the sixteen weight categories – eight of men’s and eight of women’s.
Earlier, Walton Group Operative director head of games and sports FM Iqbal Bin Anwar formally inaugurated the meet as chief guest.
