The 49th Victory Day was celebrated at Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura district on Monday.
Different socio-political, educational and cultural institutions and organisations have chalked out a series of programmes to celebrate the nation’s glorious victory over the Pakistani occupation force.
The police led by Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman have taken elaborate programmes to celebrate the Day with the national level. The programmes include a 31-gun salute, placing of wreaths at the central Shaheed Minars erected to pay homage to martyrs. Hoisting of the national flags atop all government, semi-government and private offices as well as offices of autonomous bodies across the upazila was also decorated. Special prayers have been offered in mosques and other places of worship, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of Liberation War and peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
As a part of its programme, national flag has been hoisted at AL office, Dupchanchia Sammilitto pre-cadet school, Dupchanchia Shapla high school, Dupchanchia pilot govt. high school, Dupchanchia BIAM school & collage and Dimshohor high school.
A discussion meeting presided over by UNO SM Zakir Hossain was also held on the day energised freedom loving people for freeing the country through War of Liberation.

Marking the day, district administration, various cultural organizations, political parties and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes.
The day’s programme began through placing wreaths at the monument of the Poura Park of the town in the morning.
Wreaths were laid on behalf of district administration, police, Muktijodha Sangshad, AL, BNP, Jatiya party and other political parties along with educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations.
31 gun salutes heralded the day and national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings just after the sun rise. Later, an impressive march past participated by ansar, VDP, BNCC, rovers, scouts, students of Shishu Paribar, schools and colleges was held at Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium at 8.30 am.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin and superintendent of police (SP) Towhidul Islam took salute of parade as the chief and special guests respectively.
Abdul Matin in his speeches recalled with profound respect the greatest Bangalee for all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh.
Responding to the clarion call of Bangabandhu, people from all walks of life participated in the War of Liberation and achieved the victory through nine-month bloody war on this day in 1971, he said. Later, a reception was accorded to the freedom fighters and the members of martyred families at the stadium at 11.30 with the arrangement of the district administration in cooperation with Zila Parishad.
The day long programmes also included children’s art and essay writing competitions on Liberation War, arranging documentary film show, charity football match, sports for the women and blood donation camp.
Special prayers were offered in mosques and temples and improved diets were also served in the hospitals, jail and orphanages.
In the evening, a discussion meeting on building Digital Bangladesh organized by district administration was held at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA).

Thousands of cheerful people attired with red-green coloured dresses started rushing to the Central Shaheed Minar in the city since zero hours and continued placing wreaths there till this noon.
With the sunrise, 31-gun salutes were heralded at the Police Lines ground followed by hoisting of the national flag atop all government, semi-government and private buildings, placing of wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’, Central Shaheed Minar and Mural of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Square in the city.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, officials of the divisional and district administrations, Rangpur Range Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), district police, leaders of Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad placed wreaths there.
Later, heads of different government departments, organisations and educational institutions, leaders of different political parties and their associate bodies, socio-cultural, professional and business bodies and commoners also placed wreaths there.
The main islands of roads and important buildings of government offices and organisations were illuminated and decorated with colourful lightings, miniature flags, posters and banners.
Thousands of people participated in the Victory Day mini-marathon and ‘Bijoy Rally’ that paraded the streets from Begum Rokeya University to Rangpur Zila School.
Drawing competitions for children, sports competitions for women and students, shooting competitions, football match, essay competitions and discussions were organised.
Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam hoisted the national flag and took salute at march-pasts of freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service personnel, students, children, jail guards, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur Stadium.
Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Devdas Bhattacharya, RpMP Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan, Police Superintendent Biplob Kumar Sarkar, freedom fighters, officials and political leaders were present.

Documentary films on the War of Liberation and Victory Day were screened and freedom fighters and relatives of martyred freedom fighters accorded receptions in the city.
Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, shelters of older citizens, daycare and child centres, orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars and vagabond centres.
Special prayers were offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of martyred of the War of Liberation and martyred intellectuals, progress and welfare of the country and its people at all places of religious worship.
The district administration will arrange the main discussion at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the evening to be followed by distribution of prizes and a colourful cultural function.
