Different public-private universities/institutions including Dhaka University (DU), Jagannath University (JnU), Rajshahi University (RU), Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Khulna University (KU), Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Daffodil International University (DIU), East West University (EWU) observed Victory Day with due solemnity and remember those who laid down their lives for the independence of the country.
On this day in 1971, the chief of the Pakistani Occupation Forces, Gen AAK Niazi along with his 93,000 Pakistani troops surrendered at the Ramna Racecourse, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka who was miserably defeated by the joint forces of Mukti Bahini and Mitra Bahini. In every 16 December the nation dives in celebration with the joy of freedom and remembers the contribution of hundreds of thousands of heroic souls.
In Dhaka University (DU): Keeping in line with its tradition, Dhaka University (DU), the center of youthful celebrations, wore a new look on the Victory Day. Student organizations based at the Teacher-Students Centre (TSC) of the university celebrated the day through elaborate programs.
In RU: Rajshahi University (RU) authorities observed elaborate programs marking the Victory Day. Placing wreaths, several seminars, colorful procession, special prayers and cultural functions were held at the campus on that day.
In BAU: Teachers, students and officials of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Tuesday observed victory day with much enthusiasm and honor.
The observation of victory day began at BAU with hoisting the national flag atop the academic, administrative buildings and residential halls.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Haque took the salute form the parades at university stadium. The security division of BAU and the students of different schools and college situated on the campus attended the parade.
After the parade program BAU VC paid homage to the martyrs of the liberation war placing floral wreaths at the base of liberation war memorial situated on the campus. Later, different political, cultural and social organizations of the university paid their tribute to glorious sons of the nation.
As a part of the celebration BAU authority awarded 32 freedom fighters working at different positions in the university and 5 martyred freedom fighter’s family with crest.
In CoU: The teachers, students and officials of Comilla University (CoU) observed the National Victory Day along with remembering the supreme sacrifice of the greatest sons of the country on our liberation war with due heartiest honor and dignity.
To mark the day, the university authority took a schedule of programs including floral tribute on the central Shaheed Minar, on the mural of Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, milad-mahfil, discussion program and so on.
The day was started with a colourful procession from the administrative building to the central Shaheed Minar. CoU Teachers, students and offered floral tribute on the Shaheed Minar and on the mural of the father of nation at Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall. Prof Dr Ali Ashraf, Vice-chancellor of Comilla University inaugurated the program by offering flowers.
Moreover, a discussion program was held at the CoU conference room in respect of the national freedom fighters who martyred in 1971.
In BRUR: Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR), Prof Dr AKM Nurun Nabi along with teachers, students, officials and employees placed wreaths at the Shahed Minar in the campus to begin observance of the Day.
In NSTU: The authorities of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) observed the 44th Victory Day through seminars, colorful procession, special prayers and cultural functions at the campus on that day.
Khulna University (KU) and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) placed wreathe at the Gallamary Memorial.
The East West University (EWU) celebrated the 44th National Victory Day and paid homage and tribute to the valiant freedom fighters and millions of Martyrs, who shed their lives for making Bangladesh a free nation.
Daffodil International University (DIU) observed the 44th Victory Day with a day-long program titled ‘Bijoyer Chetonaay Tarunno’.
Program starts with placing of floral wreaths at the National Monument in Savar, hoisting of the national flag, victory rally, street drama, bioscope and painting exhibition.
The day’s programme was heralded with the 31 gun salutes at the National Parade Ground at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
It was followed by the paying of tributes to the martyrs at the National Memorial at Savar, whose architect Syed Mainul Hossain passed away last month. Freedom fighter said, “I fought for my country. Now I want to see the execution of war criminals before my death.”
