Victory Day celebrated in BD missions abroad

Bangladesh Missions abroad celebrated the 43rd anniversary of the Victory Day on December 16 and renewed their pledge to work unitedly for the progress and prosperity of the nation and also upholding the country’s image abroad. The Foreign Ministry here has so far received reports from Bangladesh Consulate in New York, Bangladesh Embassy in Athens, Paris, Berlin, Jakarta, Muscat, Manila, Thimphu, Lisbon, London, Vienna, Rabat, Colombo, Yangon, Manchester, Tripoli, Mumbai, Kunming, The Hague, Beijing, Hanoi, Istanbul, New Delhi and Dubai, and from the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. In the early morning on December 16, the national flag was hoisted in all missions. Later, discussion meetings were held with the presence of a large number of expatriate nationals, said a Foreign Ministry media release on Thursday.
The programmes of missions started with recitation from the Holy Qur’ an followed by playing of the national anthem. All stood in solemn silence to pay homage to the martyred freedom fighters.
The Victory Day message given by President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister M Shahriar Alam were read out on the occasion.
As a part of the programme, lively discussions were held highlighting the significance of the day.
During the discussion, speakers paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and also to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the victory of motherland.
Most of the Missions organized cultural programmes followed by the discussion where some Bangladeshis rendered patriotic songs.
