The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) observed the 47th anniversary of Victory Day with due respect to the martyrs of Great War of Liberation, wave of ecstasy and in a befitting manner on the campus.
At beginning of the day, JU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Farzana Islam paid homage to three million martyrs and freedom fighters of the Great Liberation War by placing floral wreaths at the National Mausoleum.
Pro-VC (academic) Professor Abul Hossain, Pro-VC (administration) Professor Amir Hussain, Treasurer Professor Sheik Monjurul Huq, Dean of different faculties, JU Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique, Provosts of different dormitories, teachers, students and officials were accompanied the VC in placing wreath among others.
Later, the leaders of different student bodies representing residential halls as well as those of associations and unions also placed wreaths separately at the national Mausoleum as a mark of their deep homage to the martyred Freedom Fighters of 1971.
Meanwhile, the university authorities organized different programme on the campus marking the victory day.
At 9 am, the final match of the ‘Chancellor Cup Handball Tournament’ was held on the university’s central playground where Nawab Faizunnesa Hall became champion by defeating Sheikh Hasina Hall.
JU VC Professor Farzana Islam distributed prizes among the winners at the ending session of the tournament.
To mark the day, a three-day long exhibition on liberation war related books, journals, posters and photography was started at the JU Central Library while JU VC inaugurated it at 11.30 am.
Teacher and Student Center (TSC) and Cultural Alliance of the university organised a cultural events at the Selim Al Din Muktamancha in the afternoon. Besides, the whole university area has been illuminated with colorful lights and balanced diet has served at the dormitories marking the day.

The 47th victory day was celebrated at Rajshahi University campus on Wednesday with paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the country’s liberation war in 1971.
The university authorities and different political and socio-cultural organizations of the campus celebrated the day with much enthusiasm.
The national and university flags were hoisted atop the administrative building, residential hall and other buildings of the university with rising of the sun while different buildings were decorated with colorful lightings.
The day’s programme on campus began with placing wreaths at the university shaheed minar by the vice chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan at 6:30am where RU Pro-VC Professor Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Treasurer Professro Mustafizur Rahman were present, among others.
They observed one minute silence there in respect of martyrs.
Later, Rajshahi University Teacher’s Association, different cultural and political organizations and hall authorities placed wreaths at shaheed minar.
RU VC along with other high officials also placed wreaths at the university mass grave of the campus.
Later, RU VC inspected the parade organized by RU BNCC and Rover Scout members at Sabash Bangladesh playground and took salute.
A festive victory fair was also held at Sheikh Rasel Model School premise that was inaugurated by RU VC.
Besides, drawing competition, discussions, sports and special prayers were held on campus throughout the day.
Earlier, Rajshahi University Journalist Association, RU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation placed wreaths at shaheed minar at first hours of the day.
RU Shaheed Smriti Sangrahashala and Varendra Research Museum remained open from 8:00am to 5:00pm and 11:00am to 5:00pm respectively.

Eastern University (EU) celebrated Victory Day on Sunday at EU Seminar Hall, Dhanmondi in the capital. Kazi Reazul Hoque, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Bangladesh was the chief guest and Engr Kh. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), EU was present as the guest of honor. Prof Dr Md. Nurul Islam, Vice Chancellor, EU presided over the program.
The program started with national anthem followed by a welcoming speech by Prof Kashinath Roy, Dean, Faculty of Arts of EU and Convener of the program. Prof. Roy remembered the valiant sons and daughters of the soil, who made their supreme sacrifices for the birth of Bangladesh and prayed for them. Engr Kh Mesbah Uddin Ahmed told that 16 December bears the history of the soul of Bengali nation, even the existence.
The Chief Guest Kazi Reazul Hoque shared how general people participated in the liberation war of Bangladesh. He requested the young generation to cherish the spirit of the liberation earned through the lives of 3 million people. He then distributed prizes to the winners of the poetry recitation competition and cultural program.
The program ended with a closing note from the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Md. Nurul Islam and vote of thanks by the Registrar, Abul Basher Khan.
Deans, Chairpersons, Controller of Exam, Directors, faculty members, officers and staff along with a large number of students attended and enjoyed the programs.
