The 45th Victory Day was celebrated in the city as elsewhere in the district on Friday with enthusiastic mood pledging to establish a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh and complete the trial of the rest war criminals in line with the spirit of Liberation War.
In addition to govt programms, different political parties, its front organizations, socio-cultural and professional bodies arranged rallies, discussion meetings, cultural functions and milad mahfils to mark the day and paid homage to those glorious sons for their supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War.
The programmes included placing wreath at Shaheed Minar at one minute past 12, hoisting of national flag atop in all building at dawn, discussion meeting, bringing out processions, cultural functions, March pasts and reception to the Freedom Fighters.
The day’s programme was heralded by 21-gunfire from atop the court hill at 12.01 am which was followed by playing of whistles simultaneously from the rail, steamer and vessels engines. Minister of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Islam B. Sc. and State Minister of Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury was first to place wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.
Immediately after, Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation A Z M Nasir Uddin, Awami League (AL) Chittagong City Unit led by its President A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury , Chittagong zilla Parisad Chairman M A Salam, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md.Abdullah , Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Chittagong range Safiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong, Shamsul Arefin, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Iqbal Bahar, BNP Chittagong City unit president Dr Shahdat Hossain and hundreds of socio-cultural organizations placed wreaths.
Chittagong Press Club and Chittagong Union of Journalist placed wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Chittagong Press club premises.
Meanwhile, a victory rally led by former Mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury brought out from Chittagong M A Aziz Stadium at 10 am and concluded same venue after parading different important city roads.
District administration arranged a detailed programme to celebrate the day which included placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting national flag atop all government, autonomous, and semi government offices. Doa Mahfil and special prayers at Mosques, Temples, Churches and other places of worships seeking peace, progress of the country, screening Liberation War-based films, reception to family members of the martyrs and injured Freedom Fighters, cultural function, and illuminations of important buildings, roads and road islands.
Marking the day, a march past and physical display was held at M A Aziz Stadium with the participation of police, anser, VDP personnel and also from Fire Service, BNCC, Girls Guides, Scouts and children and juveniles from different educational institutions.
Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin along with the high officials of the district and police administration inspected the march-past and took salute.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has taken up similar programmes including placing wreath at Shaheed Minar, arranging march-past and reception to the Freedom Fighters.
CCC organized a march past programme at Bakalia city corporation stadium with the participation of the thousand students of its 35 schools. City Mayor A Z M Nasir Uddin inspected the march past and took salute. Chittagong city, north and south districts units of AL and its different front organizations organized daylong programmes in observance of the day.
Our CU correspondent adds : The authority of different educational institutions including Chittagong University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology and Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), University of Science and Technology (Chittagong) USTC also celebrated the victory day through elaborate programmes.
Padma oil Co. celebrates Victory Day: Padma Oil Co. Ltd. workers union celebrated the 45th Victory Day with due solemnity. National flag was hoisted at 9 am with the National anthem.
Besides special prayers were offered for the martyrs who made supreme sacrifices to Liberation War to free the country from Pakistan occupation.
General Manager (HR & Admin) Shaik Ezabur Rahman was present as chief Guest. president of Padma Oil Co. Workers Union Momtazul Islam presided over the Meeting.
Deputy General Manager (HR & Admin) Rafiqul Hasan was present as special guest.
A art competition was also held on the occasion of Victory day. Children of the officers and stuff participating the Competition later prize was given to the winner after the conclusion of the function.

Pledge against fundamentalists : A huge crowd has gathered before the Shahid Minar at KC Dey road in city with flags and banners, flower bouquests to celebrate the 45 years of victory of Banglades.
A police team was the first to place flowers at the Shaheed Minar on Friday, followed by politicians and people from all walks of life.The freedom fighters remembered those martyred in the nine-month war in 1971They then led the others in taking a pledge to eliminate war criminals and extremists from the motherland.
Expatriates Welfare Minister Nurul Islam BSC, State Minister for Land Saifuddin Chowhdury Javed and City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin placed wreaths on the monument.Deputy Inspector General Md Shafikul Islam, Chittagong Police Commissioner Iqbal Bahar and Deputy Commissioner Samsul Arefin also paid tribute.The Shaheed Minar was opened to the crowd gathered at the premises after the Awami League, BNP and other political and cultural organisations paid their respects.The ministers in their brief deliberations on victory day vowed to eliminate the terrorism and militancy from the country aimed at peace and tranquility in the country.
