Victory Day celebrated

The 48th Victory Day was celebrated in the city as elsewhere in the district on Sunday pledging to establish a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh and reject anti-liberation forces in line with the spirit of Liberation War.
In addition to government programme, different political parties, its front organizations, socio-cultural and professional bodies arranged rallies, discussion meetings, cultural functions and milad mahfils to mark the day and paid homage to those glorious sons for their supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War.
The programmes included placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar at one minute past 12 midnight, hoisting of national flag atop in all building at dawn, discussion meeting, bringing out processions, cultural functions, March pasts and reception to the Freedom Fighters.
The day’s programme was heralded by a 21-gunfire from atop the court hill at 12.01 am which was followed by playing of whistles simultaneously from the rail, steamer and vessels engines.
Immediately after, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation A Z M Nasir Uddin, Awami League (AL) Chattogram city unit led by its General Secretary A Z M Nasir Uddin, Chattogram zilla Parisad Chairman M A Salam, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan, Deputy Inspector General of Police(DIG), Chattogram range, Khandoker Golam Faruk, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram, Mohammad Ilias Hosain, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman and hundreds of socio-cultural organizations placed wreaths.
Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel was also places wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.
Chattogram Press Club and Chattogram Union of Journalist placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Chattogram Press club premises.
Meanwhile, main attraction of the victory and the traditional victory rally was paraded different important streets in the city.
District administration arranged a detailed programme to celebrate the day which included placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting national flag atop all government, autonomous, and semi government offices. Doa Mahfil and special prayers at Mosques, Temples, Churches and other places of worships seeking peace, progress of the country, screening Liberation War-based films, reception to family members of the martyrs and injured Freedom Fighters, cultural function, and illuminations of important buildings, roads and road islands. Marking the day, a march past and physical display was held at M A Aziz Stadium with the participation of police, anser, VDP personnel and also from Fire Service, BNCC, Girls Guides, Scouts and children and juveniles from different educational institutions.
Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan along with the high officials of the district and police administration inspected the march-past and took salute. Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has taken up similar programmes including placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, arranging march-past and reception to the Freedom Fighters.
CCC organized a march past programme at Bakalia city corporation stadium with the participation of the thousand students of its 35 schools. City Mayor A Z M Nasir Uddin inspected the march past and took salute.
Chattogram city, north and south districts units of AL and its different front organizations organized daylong programmes in observance of the day.
Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship. Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, jails, shishu sadan, vagabond centres, orphanages and shelter homes for the elderly people.
Different colleges and university sources said the authority of different educational institutions including Chattogram University, Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology and Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), University of Science and Technology (Chattogram) USTC, Chattogram college Chattogram also celebrated the victory day through elaborate programmes.
