UNB, Gaibandha :
The body of Ramesh Tudu, who was shot dead in a police-led eviction drive at Bagda Farm of Gobindaganj, has been exhumed at Singtajuri village after 14 months of his burial following a court order.
The body was sent to Gaibandha Hospital for an autopsy to collect the inquest (Surathal) report after exhuming with the presence of magistrate Rafiul Alam.
The court ordered to exhume body following a
petition of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), said Anwar Hossain, additional superintendent of Gaibandha PBI.
On November 6, 2016, police along with the local AL activists evicted more than 1,500 Santal families and set fire to their makeshift houses at Shahebganj-Bagda Farm of Rangpur Sugar Mill at Gobindaganj.
Police recovered Ramesh’s bullet-hit body from a sugarcane field.
Shyamal Hembram and Mangal Mardi, who received bullet injuries in police firing, died in Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
However, Ramesh Tudu was buried at Singtajuri village escorted by police without any autopsy.
Later, Thomash Hembram, a Santal, filed a general diary on December 26 last and filed a petition with the High Court to know the reasons behind Ramesh’s death.
Following the petition, the court ordered PBI for investigation of the case.
Later, PBI filed a petition to Gaibandha court for exhuming body to find out the reasons behind the death.
