Victim of Jabbar’s ’71 crimes testifies

A new prosecution witness (PW), a victim of crimes against humanity committed by Engineer Abdul Jabbar in 1971, on Monday submitted his deposition against the former Jatiya Party MP. Keshob Chandra Biswas, 66, from village Noli under Mothbaria police station in Pirojpur testified as the PW-21 at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1.
“On May 22, 1971, Jabbar along with his cohorts in Razakar Bahini were coming towards our village from the west side. As we the villagers tried to resist them, Razakar cadres, following the order of Jabbar, started firing indiscriminately. Jabbar shoot one Sokhanath Khorati. Acting on Jabbar’s order, Razakar Nur Hossain gunned down my uncle Nishikanta Biswas.,” said Keshob. “A total of 11 people were martyred in our village on that day. I was also hit by a bullet on top of my skull but luckily it just brushed away. Razakars following the order of Jabbar, looted around 60 houses including ours on that day and set fire to those,” he added.
After his deposition, advocate Mohammad Abul Hasan, state-appointed counsel for the fugitive accused, cross-examined him and the tribunal then adjourned the hearing till today.
The ICT-1 on August 14 indicted Jabbar, framing five charges of crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile, at the ICT-2, the prosecution placed arguments in the trial of Jamaat leader Abdus Subhan for the fourth day. Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chamon today argued only on charge number 6 of the total nine charges framed against the nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami.
