Huge quantity of rice meant for distribution among the ultra-poor under the vulnerable group feeding (VGF) scheme were recovered from three ponds in Haripur village of Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
Being informed by locals, a team of local administration recovered the rice from the ponds, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shammi Islam. However, it could not be immediately known who dropped the rice there, she added. Locals suspected that rice trader Azizul Islam of the area might have involved in the incident, said Khurshid Alam, chairman ofMaharazpurUnion Parishad. Azizul Islam went into hiding immediately after the incident, said Khurshid. Legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident, said the UNO.
