Vettori joins, Shakib absent in Tigers 1st day’s camp for India tour

Bangladesh’s spin consultant Daniel Vettori joined the camp of the Tigers for their upcoming India tour as it began on Friday with the skill session at the National Cricket Academy Ground, which adjacent to the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The BCB appointed Vettori, the former New Zealand captain, as the bowling coach just after the World Cup, when they also replaced some coaches with new one, giving them contract till 2020 World T20. Unlike the others, Vettori will spend only 100 days with Bangladesh during the time.
He played 113 Tests, 295 ODIs and 34 T20Is for New Zealand and claimed 362, 305 and 38 wickets respectively. The 40-year-old coach previously worked for several teams of Indian Premier League. BCB handed him the role after they parted ways with Indian coach Sunil Joshi.
Vettori landed the country on Friday morning before arriving into the ground to supervise the practice session. Head coach Russell Domingo and Neil Mc Kenzie, the batting coach of Bangladesh for white ball cricket, also arrived here morning.
However, on the first day of his assignment, Vettori interacted the spinners but Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan was absent in the skill session. The reason of his absence from the first day’s camp is yet to be known.
Meanwhile, Imrul Kayes who is called up as the back-up of opener Tamim Iqbal also joined the practice session alongside pace bowler Al-Amin Hossain and left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny, who was called up into the team after three years. Tamim may miss part of India tour due to be with his ailing wife.
Bangladesh will start their India tour by playing three-match T20 series, starting on November 3 before they face off India for two-match Test series.
