Commerce Minister Tofayel Ahmed said a vested quarters in Bangladesh are conspiring deeply to unstable the country but all their attempts will be foiled . He mentioned that unstability, violances etc including killing of 3 officials inside the office room in USA are happening across the world but our country is far stable than these countries. He said none will obstruct the advancement of the country in future despite conspiracies of the anti-liberation forces. He was addressing the 3rd death anniversary function of the late Awami league presidium member Akhtaruzzaman chowdhury Babu as chief guest. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed in a memorial meeting on paid glowing tributes to former Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) Aktarurzzaman Chowdhury Babu for his outstanding contributions to dedicated politics for the welfare of the common masses.”We have many things to learn from the prolonged political legacy of unselfishness and moderation that he left for the rank and file of the party”, the Commerce Minister said. Eminent social scientist and vice-chancellor of Premier University Prof Dr Anupam Sen presided over the meeting, organised by ‘Aktururzzaman Chowdhury Babu Civic Memorial Committee Chittagong’.
Paying rich tributes to late Babu, a freedom fighter of the country’s liberation war, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said late Aktururzzama Chowdhury became politician from the grass-root level and political career could be flourished if any activist gets companion to that great leader.”It was Babu who was in the helm of party during critical moments after the assassination of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members in 1975″, the minister added.The commerce minister said when the then autocratic government opened fire on a Sheikh Hasina’s public meeting at Laldighi Maidan on January 24, 1988, all AL leaders including the party chief took refuge at late Babu’s hilltop residence.
Presided over by vice chancellor (VC) of Premier University Dr Anupam Sen,the memorial meeting was addressed, among others, by late Babu’s eldest son state Minister for land Saifuzzman Chowdhury Jabed, Media Adviser to the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Lawmakers- Mainuddin Khan Badal, Abu Reza Nadwi, Sabiha Musa, Dr Afsarul Ameen, vice chancellor (VC) of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Dr Mohammad Jahangir,University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) VC Dr Pravat Chandra Barua, Chittagong Press Club (CPC) president Kalim Sarwar and Director of Rupali Bank Abu Sufian, president of Chittagong District Bar Association Advocate Mujibul Hoque Khan, Bar Council member Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Babul, convenor of Chittagong Professional Coordination Council Prof Dr Sirazul Islam, comrade Shah Alam, former president of Chittagong Club Dr Mainul Islam Mahmud, President of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) Ezaz Yusufee, Vice President of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association (BGMEA) Mainuddin Ahmed Mintu.
