BSS, Chittagong :
Former city mayor and President of Chittagong city Awami League (AL) ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury on Monday alleged that a vested quarter of Chittagong Port is assisting the private operator Saif Power Tec Ltd to loot government funds illegally.
Terming Saif Power Tec as ‘national enemy’, he said the premier seaport Chittagong Port is not running properly in spite of the Prime Minister’s directives and the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) is not taking any legal steps against the company.
Mohiuddin Chowdhury, also convenor of the Chittagong Port Protection Council (CPPC), said this while inaugurating a black badge wearing programme in Chittagong Port area.
Terming Saif Power Tec as a ‘Mafia Gang’, Mohiuddin also called for blacklisting the company and alleged that Saif Power Tec has been misappropriating government funds by keeping the port hostage, violating the agreement and indulging in corruptions.
“The company is illegally working at the port and looting government funds by frequently violating the agreement.
As a result the port officials, employees, workers and users are to incur losses”, he added.
He said a vested quarter is trying to create anarchy in the port through conspiracy for the sake of their own interests.
On the second round of his protest programmes on Monday, he also declared hunger strike on September 7 at Port House and a public meeting at Laldighi Maidan on September 10.
CPPC leaders Abu Taher, Mahfuzur Rahman Khan, Momtaz Uddin, Abdul Ahad, Mohammad Elias, Harunur Rashid, Iskandar Meah, Gazi Alamgir and Sazzadur Rahman, among others, spoke on the occasion.
