UNB, Chandpur :
A cargo vessel carrying some 960 tonnes of China clay, the main ingredient of making ceramic items, capsized in the Meghna River in Ananda Bazar area near the district town here on Tuesday after being hit by two other vessels.
M Billal Hossain, supervisor of the vessel, said the Dhaka-bound ‘MV Soyad’ was hit by two cargo vessels coming from the opposite direction in the morning.
The vessel started sinking after the hit. Noticing danger, the master started rushing it towards the bank. However, 80 percent the cargo went under water by the time it reached the shore.
All the China clay were damaged as water entered the vessel, Billal said.
On information, a team of Bangladesh Coast Guard from Chandpur station visited the spot.
