Waliul Haq Rumi is a theatre background versatile actor. He is a popular face in the small screen. He has been regularly performing with Theatre (Baily Road) where he has been working with the group since 1993. His mentionable theatre plays are: Payer Awaaj Pawa Jai, Ekhono Kritodash, Spordha, Meraj Fokirer Maa and Golap Bagan. He played dual roles in Meraj Fokirer Maa. According to Rumi, before joining Theatre (Baily Road), he was
a student of the second batch of the Theatre School. During that time, he met Ramendu Majumdar, who in
turn introduced Rumi to his mentor Abdullah Al Mamun. Rumi’s first acting experience for small screen was in the serial Kon Kanoner Phool. Since then he has performed consistently with his tally of single episode dramas. He captured the limelight by portraying a CBA leader in once popular drama serial Shirsho Bindu, a performance he describes as ‘challenging role.’ He went on to perform in Abdullah Al Mamun’s serial Jibon Chhobi. Rumi also acted in the final directorial project by Abdullah Al Mamun. Currently several TV channels are airing serials featuring Rumi. Deepto TV is airing 200-episode Bokulpur, RTV is airing Shanti Molom 10 Taka, Asian TV is airing Gobindopurer Golpo, ETV is airing Tokkorbaj, Boishakhi TV is airing Trendy, Nagorik TV is airing Bou Birodh, Channel 9 is airing Damage, Channel i is airing Super Six.
“I am getting huge response to play the role of Moslem Sarkar in drama series Bokulpur. In fact, this character has become popular, most discussed and criticized among the viewers. I got huge response from the viewers for acting in this role which was really really out of expectation from mine,” versatile actor Waliul Haq Rumi said this while talking about his role in new drama and viewers’ reactions. Second season of this drama series directed by Kaiser Ahmed is being aired on Deepto TV now. Rumi informed that besides acting in this serial, he is also engaged with shooting of several numbers of drama serials and Eid dramas. While talking about his present engagement with acting, this versatile actor said, “In fact, I am engaged with shooting of 8 to 10 dramas including Jadunogor, Dour, Gutibaji, Tokkorbaj, Kyachal, Gobindopurer Golpo, among others. Recently I have completed shooting of drama Hotel Five Star where Rashed Shemato and Ahona were my co-actors. Within short time, I will also take part in shooting of a seven-episode drama series with Rashed Shemanto and cricker Ashraful. Therefore, there are several numbers of dramas on the occasion of Eid on my hands now.”
Meanwhile, Rumi is going to act with popular actor Mosharraf Karim again in Jomoj 15, a sequel of much popular drama Jomoj. While talking in this regard, Rumi said, “I acted in the drama in role of a master. This time I will also play the role of a master in this sequel drama. I believe this sequel drama will also impress the viewers like previous one.”
However, there was complaining that hero and heroine get maximum priority rather than character artistes. After introducing OTT and good story based projects this situation is being improved. In this case, working scope of character artistes are being increased now. Actor Rumi agreed with this matter. He said, “Yes, our working scope has been increased now. Situation is being improved. In this case, who came from theatre background and have acting skills they are getting more scope and priority for acting.”
Rumi is also a regular performer in Hanif Sangket’s Ittyadi since 1996. Terming it a ‘special achievement,’ Rumi says he has established a unique bond with Ittyadi and Hanif Sangket.
