Verdict of Akkas murder case after 23 years

The Chittagong court announced the judgment of sensational murder case of Shandwip’s Akkas Uddin after long 23 years. The court acquitted all accused of the case as the government lawyers have failed to prove the charges against the accused. The acquitted accused were identified as Guard Foyej Uddin Ahamod, Mohammed Siddik Meah, Ashraf Uddin Member, Mominul Haque Ferdous and Shafiul Haque. Besides, the court also excluded three accused as they died earlier. The excluded accused persons are the then chairman of Gachua Union at Shandwip Shafiqul Islam, Shahajan Haque and Abul Kashem. Of the acquitted accused only Guard Foyej Uddin Ahamod are in jail while rest are on bail.
Sources in court said, Akkas Uddin (30) was killed in mass beating for alleged stealing on August 4 in 1993 at Gachua Union at Shandwip in Chittagong. Later, Abul Khaier, father of the victim filed a case against those persons accusing them for killing his son Akkas on August 7 in 1993. The then Sub Inspector of Shandwip thana AH Hanan submitted the charge sheet after investigation on October in 1993. The court started the hearing of the said murder case from August 10 in 1999.
