A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced Emdadul Haque to death and another three to life imprisonment in a case filed over murder of stationery trader Kazi Jahurul Islam Babu in Mirpur of the capital.
Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of the Special Judge Court-10 of Dhaka pronounced the verdict in presence of the three convicts on Monday.
The three convicts who were sentenced to life imprisonment are Shahidullah, Monir and Azadul. They were also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default they would suffer six months more in the prison. Of four convicts, Shahidullah is on the run.
According to the case documents, the convicts stabbed to death Kazi Jahurul Islam Babu on July 17, 2013 due to previous enmity. They called the victim from his Maddamanipur house and stabbed him. Babu’s brother Kazi Tajul Islam filed the case with Mirpur Model Police Station on the same day. SI Imanur Rahman of police submitted the charge-sheet of the case to the court on July 26, 2014.
The court gave the judgment, examining 13 out of 15 witnesses in the case on different dates.
