Manzoor murder case: Verdict deferred more hearing on Feb 27

UNB, Dhaka :A Dhaka court on Monday set February 27 for further argument in Maj Gen Manzoor killing case. Dhaka’s first additional district and sessions judge Khandaker Hasan Mahmud Firoz fixed the date after deferring the verdict that was scheduled on Monday.Earlier, on February 2, Khandker Hasan Mahmud Firoz replaced first additional district and sessions judge of Dhaka Hosne Ara Akhter who fixed the date of verdict in Maj Gen Manzoor murder case.Jatiya Party chairman and prime minister’s special envoy HM Ershad is the main accused in the case. He is now on bail. A former military dictator, Ershad along with other accused was present in the court when the date was fixed for further argument in the case.According to the case statement, Maj Gen Abul Manzoor, Bir Uttam, was killed in police custody after being captured at the Chittagong Cantonment on June 1, 1981, a day after President General Ziaur Rahman was assassinated at the local Circuit House in an abortive coup.Manzoor’s brother Barrister Abul Mansur Ahmed filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station in Chittagong on February 28, 1995, fourteen years after the killing. Later, the case was transferred to Dhaka from Chittagong for disposal.
