Court Correspondent :
The verdict in a rape case against sacked teacher Parimal Joydhar of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College will be delivered on November 25.
Judge Saleh Uddin Ahmed of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 of Dhaka fixed the date on Tuesday after completion of arguments submitted on behalf of the prosecution and the defence.
Out of forty witnesses, 28 testified to the court in the case. Police produced accused Parimal Joydhar in the court on the occasion.
Special Public Prosecutor Forkan Miah told newsmen that they were able to prove the allegation against Parimal and demanded punishment for him.
In the contrary, defence counsel Mahfuz Miah claimed that the prosecution failed to prove the allegation and, as such the accused would get justice from the tribunal.
Parimal, who was sacked during the trial process, sexually assaulted a Class-X girl of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College taking her into a room of his house twice in May and June of 2011 and also captured the scene on his mobile phone. On July 5, 2011, the victim’s father lodged the rape case against Parimal, Hosne Ara, the then Principal of the institution, and its Bashundhara branch Head Lutfur Rahman.
Detectives arrested Parimal from his relative’s house at Keraniganj area on July 7 of that year. He made confessional statement to a court on July 11, four days after his arrest.
Police submitted charge sheet of the case against Parimal to the court on August 11 of the same year, dropping the names of Hosne Ara and Lutfur Rahman.
On March 7, 2012, the court framed charges against Parimal. The trial in the case began on June 6, 2012, with recording the depositions of the witnesses.
