It is known that the barrage built on the Dalia Teesta River in the northern part of Bangladesh with 56 water gates is the largest irrigation project in the country. The project provides irrigation facilities to 540,000 hectares of land in Nilphamari, Rangpur and Dinajpur districts.

Going to the spot, it was seen that after the work of the barrage built on the Dalia Teesta river, under the open sky in Dewani’s storeroom, there are neglected and neglected parts including trucks, bakers, wagons, welding machines and modern vehicles worth hundreds of crores of rupees. And because these things have been lying around for a long time, they have become unusable.
Construction of the barrage began in 1989 and was completed in 1990. The irrigation project and the barrage are maintained and managed by the Water Development Board of the Ministry of Water Resources.
According to Teesta Barrage sources, as the Water Development Board authorities have not taken any initiative to repair these modern things, all these vehicles and parts that are usable and moving are getting damaged and stolen due to sun and rain. But at one time these moving modern things have become obsolete now. The Water Development Board authorities may at any time disqualify all these items and modern equipment. Meanwhile, the items lying in the godown of Dalia Dewani have expired due to rust and unsuitable use.
On condition of anonymity, a civil storeroom employee of Teesta Barrage complained that goods and parts worth crores of rupees were imported from abroad for the needs of the Water Development Board but the goods and parts lying in the storeroom were not being repaired due to lack of funds. If all these cars and trucks were in operation, they could be used for the development of the country.
Locals say the government is losing huge sums of money due to lack of skilled manpower for hundreds of crores of rupees worth of valuables. The authorities are silent. No one to watch.
Asfaud Daula, executive engineer of the Water Development Board of the Dalia Division said, “I have joined the Dalia Water Development Board just a month ago. I don’t know the matter well.” I have instructed the Deputy Assistant Engineer in charge to make a list of all the useless parts in my division. As soon as the list is received, I will be able to take necessary steps as per the instructions of my higher authority.
