Vegetables’ price up despite new arrival

Winter vegetables have been arriving in the city’s kitchen markets, but price has remained costly. People of fixed income group are worried, as they cannot maintain budget.
The traders say, the vegetables’ price is almost double this year compared with previous year.
Higher transport fare is one of the reasons of high price of vegetables in the capital city. Abdur Rashid, a Arotdar of Karwan Bazar said, a vegetable truck charges Tk 30,000 from Kushtia to Dhaka which was Tk 20,000 last year.
Of vegetables, bean was selling at Tk 120 per kg, brinjal at Tk70 to 80, okra at Tk 60, potato (new) at Tk100, green chilli at Tk 120 to 140, french at Tk 70 to 80, tomato at Tk 100 to 120, carrot at Tk 60 to 70 per kg, potato (old) at Tk 25 to 30 per kg, bitter gourd at Tk 60 to Tk 70 , cucurbitaceous at Tk 60 to 70, cucumber at Tk 35 to 40, spone gourd at Tk 50 to 60, arum at 35 to 45, radish at Tk 25 to 30, papaya at Tk 30, snake gourd at Tk 50 to 60, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 60 to 70 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 25 to 45 piece, bottle gourd at Tk 55 to 65 per piece, ash gourd at Tk 30 to 40 piece, coriander leaves at Tk 400 per kg. Capsicum (red) at Tk 500 per kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 350 to 400 kg.
The local onion was selling at Tk 50 to 55 per kg, while the imported onion at Tk 45 to 48 kg. Imported garlic was selling at Tk 110 to 120 kg only, and local garlic at Tk 80 kg. Imported ginger marked a
rise by the five to 20 and was selling at Tk 170 to 180 per kg. The locally produced ginger was selling at Tk 70 to 90 per kg based on quality.
Beef is selling for Tk 400 per kg at Khilgaon and the red meat at Tk 550 to 600. A medium size local cock was selling at Tk 380 to 500 per piece and hen at Tk 300 to 370. The boiler chickens’ price stands at Tk 150 to 155 per kg. The egg (farm) was selling at Tk 34 per hali (4 pieces), egg (local) at Tk 45 and egg (duck) at Tk 40 to Tk 44. Pigeon per pair was selling at Tk180 to Tk 250 and four koil birds were selling at Tk 200 based on size.
The price of red lentil remained high and the fine variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 130 per kg while the imported item (coarse variety) was selling at Tk 115 kg over the week.
Five liters of Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 490 to Tk 505, loose super palm oil at 75 per liter, sugar price by Tk three per kg and it was selling at Tk 48 to 50 per kg and molasses at Tk 70 to 120 and flattened rice at Tk 70 to 90.  
The coarse rice was selling in retail at Tk 33 to 35 per kg, Pyjam at Tk 39 to 41 per kg, Nazirshail brand of rice at Tk 50 to 55 kg, Minicate at Tk 46-52 kg, Kattari bhog at Tk 75, Pillau rice (Badsha bhog) at Tk 90 to 120 kg and Kalijira at Tk 115 to 130 per kg only. Coarse flour was selling at Tk40 per kg and a 2-kg packet at Tk 75.
Two pieces of hilsha weighing about 600 grams to one kg were selling at Tk 240 to 250 at South Goran on Friday. Of the other fishes, Puti was selling at Tk 200 per kg, live puti at Tk 320 kg, Kholisa at Tk 250, Chapila at Tk 300, cultivated koi at Tk 200 to 260 per kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchada) at Tk 1200 kg, Chanda small at Tk 200 kg, walking fish (Shoal) at Tk 300 per kg, Eel at Tk 350 to 400 kg, Meni at Tk 300 kg, Sheat (boal) at Tk 600 to 800 kg, Ek-thota (Kaitta fish) at Tk 300 to Tk 500, Baila at Tk 400 to 600 per kg, Coral Fish at 550 kg, river Pangas at Tk 300 kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 130 kg, Rajputi at Tk 300 per kg, Tilapia at Tk 140 to Tk 220 kg, Ruhit at Tk 350 to Tk 400 per kg, medium size carp (katol) at Tk 250-300 a kg, big size katol at Tk 300 kg, local variety of Cat fish (Shing) at Tk 500-600 a kg, barbel at Tk 800 per kg, lobster at Tk 400 to 600 per kg, and shrimp (River) at Tk 300-400 per kg.
