The price of vegetables, fish, meat and fruits is higher in the city markets despite plenty of supply. The price will, however, come down gradually, said a retailer.
But Hilsha, weighing above one kilogram was selling at Tk 2000 per kilo at South Goran’s Baganbari roadside bazaar.
Visiting different markets the reporter observed that green chilly was selling at Tk 60 to 70 per kg, brinjal at Tk 60 to 90, potato at Tk 25, okra at Tk 60 to 70, parbal at Tk 60, arum at Tk 80, snake gourd at Tk 50 to 60, french beans at Tk 70, balsam apple at Tk 80, teasel gourd at Tk 80, carrot at Tk 100 to 120, bitter gourd at Tk 60, cucumber at Tk 60 to 70, green papaya at Tk 50 to 60, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 70 to 90 per piece, bottle gourd at Tk 50 to 60, ash gourd at Tk 35 to 40 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 40 to 50, coriander leaves at Tk 300 per kg, capsicum (red) at Tk 450 per kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 350.
Of fishes, butter fish was selling at Tk 400 to 550 per kilo, lobster at Tk 550 to 600, shrimp (River) at Tk 500 to 600, puti at Tk 300 to 400, cultivated koi at Tk 180 to 250 per kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchanda) at Tk 100 to 1100 per kg, eel at Tk 600 to 800 per kg, batashi at Tk 400 to 500, Aire fish at Tk 500 to 700, baila at Tk 650 to 700 per kg, coral fish at Tk 450 to 600 per kg, river Pangas at Tk 350 per kg, cultivated pangas at Tk 140 per kg, rajputi at Tk 400 per kg and telapia at Tk 200 to Tk 250 per kg.
The white broiler chicken was selling at Tk 175 to
Tk 180 per kg, mother chicken at Tk 190 to 210 per kg, the sonali cock (Pakistani origin) at Tk 180 to 250 per piece. Local (deshi) chicken weighing 800 grams to 900 was selling at Tk 350 to 500 per piece.
Beef was selling at Tk 480 toTk 540 per kg and red meat (goat) at Tk 750 to 800 per kg on Friday.
Though Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has fixed Tk450 per kg for beef for the month of Ramadan, retailers are selling beef at higher price by Tk 30 to Tk 70 in the city areas. When asked about City Corporation’s fixed price, the meat traders said that they did not buy meat from the city corporation.
Of rice, superior quality of nazirshail was selling at Tk 65 to 70 per kg, minicate at Tk 62 to 68 per kg, medium quality of Bridhan-28 and Lata rice at Tk 55-58 per kg, Swarna at Tk 55 and similarly the hybrid quality at Tk 50 to Tk 58 per kg.
Varieties of Dates were selling at Tk 250 to 1100 per kg in the city, Apple at Tk 170 to 180, Malta at Tk 150, Naspati at Tk 180 and Guava at Tk 140 to 160.
Container of one kilo of soyabean oil was selling at Tk 105-108, while a five-litre container at Tk 505-525 in the city’s kitchen markets. Unpacked soyabean oil was selling at Tk 98 a kg, palm oil at Tk 85 a kg, fine quality of packet salt at Tk 40 a kg, while the refined one at Tk 28 a kg in the city markets.
The price of red lentil remained unchanged over the week. The local variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 120-130 a kg, while the coarse variety of imported red lentil was selling at Tk 80-100 a kg over the week.
The local variety of onion was selling between Tk 45 to 50 per kg, imported Indian variety at Tk 35 to 40, the garlic at Tk 70 to 120 per kg and ginger at Tk 100 to 140 per kg.
