A vegetable vendor was chopped to death in the early hours of Saturday at Enaytpur village in Jhenidah sadar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Khaleque, 42, son of Lutfar Rahman of Enaytpur village in same upazila.
Officer in charge Shahbuddin Azad of sadar police station said, Abdul Khaleque was sleeping on the courtyard of his house due to severe heat. In the early hours of Saturday a gang of miscreants entered in to the house and started chopping. Instantly, he was rushed to a local private clinic and referred to Jhenidah sadar hospital in a critical state where he succumbed to injures.
The body was set to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for post mortem examination. As Abdul Khaleque had two wives, there was a conflict in the family that might lead the killing incident, the OC added.
