The price of each vegetable has gone up by Tk 10 to Tk 15 per kg in a week. The traders said that the reason for the increase in the price of vegetables was the lack of supply. However, due to good production, the price of onion has come down by five taka per kg. Vendors said prices of vegetables have gone up in the week due to low supply. If supply increases, prices will come down. However, the price of onion has come down by Tk 5 per kg, they said.
In the kitchen markets, local onions are being sold at a retail price of Tk 40 per kg. Last week, the onion was sold for 45 taka. In other words, the price of onion has come down by five takas per kg in a week. Indian onions are being sold at Tk 36 per kg.
Traders feel that onion prices have also declined in the retail market due to lower prices in the wholesale market.
In these markets, karla is sold at Tk 60 per kg, potato at Tk60-70 per kg, barbati at Tk 70-80 per kg, patal at Tk 60 per kg, lati at Tk 60 per kg, chichinga at Tk 60 per kg, sajna at Tk 200 to Tk 220 per kg, carrots at Tk 20-30 per kg and beans at Tk 60 per kg. Eggplant is selling at Tk 40, tomato at Tk 20, pumpkin at Tk 40 to 50 per piece and cabbage at Tk 20. Sweet pumpkin is selling at Tk 30 per kg, potato is selling at Tk 18 to 20 per kg, banana is being sold at Tk 30 per hali. Raw chillies are being sold at Tk 60 per kg. Papaya is being sold at 30 taka per kg. Cucumbers are being sold at Tk 40 to Tk50 per kg, cucumbers at Tk 50 per kg and peas at Tk 40 toTk 50 per kg. Lemon hali is being sold at 30 to 50 taka depending on the size.Besides, Indian garlic is being sold at 120 takaper kg, local garlic at 50 taka, local ginger at 80 to 85 taka and Chinese ginger at 120 to 130 taka.
Open sugar is being sold at Tk 65 per kg in these markets. BR-28 rice is being sold at Tk 45 to 48 per kg, Miniket at Tk 75, Nazir at Tk 65 to 70, Swarna rice at Tk 48 and open rice from Polaway at Tk 90. Open edible oil is being sold at Tk 125 per liter, local buyers sources s aid.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mominur Rahman called for keeping prices stable during month of Ramadan. He made the call at an views exchange meeting at the Chittagong district administration’s conference room around 12 noon on Thursday. The meeting was organized on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan at the initiative of the district administration with the aim of keeping the supply and prices of daily necessities stable.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said Bangladesh has gone from a least developed country to a developing country. You all have a role to play. We have come out of the hand leaf culture. Now we donate ourselves. We have also achieved growth in the Corona situation.
He said the lion’s share of Bangladesh’s supply is through Chittagong. So our responsibility is more. We have to be responsible. The price of the goods must be kept right. We all need to work together on how we can keep commodity prices stable this year.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate Moshammat Sumni Akter, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) SM Zakaria, Director of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce Mahbub Alam and representatives of various trade organizations.
