Begum Rokeya University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah’s allegations are ‘false, fabricated, baseless and ill motivated,’ said the Education Ministry on Thursday.
“The VC has made an ill attempt to confuse people spreading false and wrong information,” it said.
Following the press conference of the Begum Rokeya University’s VC on Thursday noon, the Education Ministry sent a press release in the afternoon protesting his remarks.
It was stated in the release that in the wake of various irregularities and corruption at Begum Rokeya University, the Education Ministry requested the University Grants Commission (UGC) to send a report after investigation. “The UGC submitted its report after investigation in accordance with the existing rules.”
The release said: “The UGC is an autonomous body. There is no scope of influencing its investigation by the ministry or the minister. So, Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah’s allegations were ‘false, fabricated, baseless and motivated.'”
It said that ‘Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah made his remarks directly attacking the education minister personally, which was totally undesirable.
“He made a remark about education minister delay in attending a meeting with the public universities’ VCs held at International Mother Language Institute on February 19 last. Though the meeting was scheduled to be held in the morning, it was deferred to the afternoon changing the schedule, because the education minister had to attend another important meeting regarding the appointment of teachers. Subsequently, the education minister, deputy education minister, secretary and UGC chairman-all were late in attending the meeting.”
“The education minister also sought apology from all for her delay. Everybody knows about the punctuality of the minister. She attends all the meetings in time. But, Kalimullah made remarks attacking the minister personally. It was not only undesirable, but also unfortunate,” the release said.
