In the backdrop of murder of two university students in recent days, vice chancellors of different universities on Sunday called upon the authorities concerned to ban teachers’ and students’ politics at the public varsities across the country.
The call came from a meeting of Inter-university Cultural Board held at Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University in the capital on yesterday (Sunday).
Prevailing stalemate situation at Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU) and Rajshahi University (RU) following the deaths of two students and BCL leaders Saad Ibn Momtaj and Rustom Ali was discussed at the meeting.
Disruption of academic activities at the public universities because of teachers’ and students’ politics also came up for discussion in the meeting.
Bangladesh University Parishad president and Dinajpur Haji Danesh Science and Technology University VC Prof M Ruhul Amin presided over the meeting. SBAU VC Prof Shadat Ullah, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University VC Dr M Khairul Islam spoke.
The VCs of Shahjalal Science and Technology University, Noakhali Science and Technology University and Comilla University were also present at the meeting.
In the meeting, BAU Vice chancellor Dr M Rafiqul Haque said a section of teachers have involved themselves in the untoward incidents.
He called upon all universities authorities to play strong role through Bangladesh University Parishad in bringing back normalcy on the campuses by banning teachers-students politics for a certain period.
Later, VCs of some other universities agreed with him.
