The government has appointed Vice-Chancellors (VCs) for Dhaka University (DU), Chattogram University (CU) and Barishal University (BU).
President Abdul Hamid made the appointment after the authorities have finalised the nominee panels for the concerned posts recently.
The Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday.Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, who was serving as the acting VC of Dhaka University, has been appointed for a four-year term. The Islamic History & Culture Department professor succeeded AAMS Arefin Siddique in September 2017.
Dr Md Sadequl Arefin, Social Work professor of the Rajshahi University (RU), will be serving as the VC of Barishal University for the next four years.
Of the Chattogram University, Pro-VC Shireen Akhter has been made the acting VC. She will be in the office until a new VC is appointed through the panel of the Senate or a fresh order is issued, according to the education ministry notification.
