Chittagong Bureau :
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists have filed a case against 17 officials and employees of Bangladesh Railway (BR) on Wednesday for harassing BCL activists on August 27.
Ashrafuddin Titu, Assistant Office Secretary of city unit BCL, filed the case with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate M Moshiur Rahman. The accused in the case are namely Yasin Faruk, OC of GRP Thana, his bodyguard Emran, SI Wahid, Station Master Abu Jafar Ahmed, Booking Clerk M Mohsin, members of BR Nirapatta Bahini Russel, Saiful Islam, Shamsuddin, Imrul Khan, M Kuddus, Muhammadullah, Rabiul Huq, Delwar Hussain, Habibur Rahman, Munir Hussain, and M Sabbir.
Previously, BCL activists had applied for 380 tickets to attend the rally of BCL in Dhaka on August 27. But it is alleged that the BR staff have intentionally denied booking the tickets for them who had approached politely under the official procedure. Denial of booking the tickets instigated them to go on prompt action of protest. They had clashed with security officials and vandalised a total of 5 ticket counters during the protest. BCL alleged that they were attacked by security men following orders from Station Master Abu Jafar and OC Yasin Faruq when they became vocal. Five BCL men were injured during the clash.
Later on, the authorities of Bangladesh Railway made two staff and three security officials of Chittagong Railway Station responsible for the cause of vandalism. The authorities suspended them instantly. The suspended staff are viz. Station Master Abu Jafar, booking assistant Mohsin, and Government Railway Police personnel Monir Hossain, Sabbir, and Hafiz.
A five-member investigation team has been formed to probe the incident and asked to submit its report within three days.
