Valuables worth about Taka 34 lakh were gutted in three separate fire accidents in the city and district on early Monday.
Fire Service & Civil Defence sources said six CNG-run auto-rickshaws worth about Taka 20 lakh were gutted in a fire that originated from an electric short-circuit in two auto-rickshaw garages in city’s Kolsi Dighi area under Export Processing Zone (EPZ) Police Station around 2 am.
Four firefighting vehicles from EPZ and Bondor Stations managed to extinguished the blaze around 4.30 am.
Besides, goods of three shops worth about Taka nine lakh were gutted in another fire originating from electric short-circuit at Alamgir Market of city’s Dewanhat area under Double Mooring Police Station around 2.40 am.
Being informed, two units of firefighters from Agrabad and Nandankanan Fire Stations rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 3.50 am.
Meanwhile, two makeshift dwelling houses were gutted in another fire in Sarkarhat area of Mirzapur under Hathazari upazila of the district around 3 am.
Valuables worth about Taka five lakh were gutted in the fire, the sources said, adding that none was, however, injured in the fire.
