Uzbekistan and Syria made a good start in the Group-E of the AFC Under-23 Championship-2016 Qualifiers beating their rivals at Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Friday.
In the first match of the day, Uzbekistan beat India by 2-0.
After a barren first half, Uzbekistan midfielder Igor Sergeev put his side ahead by a header in the 88th minute utilising a corner kick off midfielder Jamshid Iskanderov.
Vladimir Kozak doubled the margin and sealed the victory in the injury time placing the ball into an empty net after taking control of the ball off a Sergeev pass.
Uzbekistan put more pressure on the opponents with continuous attacks and Kozak had another chance in the 84th minute that was blocked by India defender.
Earlier, India had the first shot on target in the 16th minute when forward Jayesh Dilip Rane’s strike from outside the box was saved brilliantly by Uzbek goalkeeper Akmal Tursunbaev.
In the 22nd minute, Indian forward Holicharan Narzary spoiled a golden opportunity to score.
Holicharan Narzary found the Uzbek keeper one-on-one after a free run receiving a through off Abinas Rui Das, but his shot was too weak to convert deceiving the goalie Tursunbaev.
In the second match, Syria beat hosts Bangladesh by 4-0 goals at the same venue.
Syria took the lead in the very fifth minute with midfielder Omar Kharbin curving a free kick from 20 yards out into the right post of Bangladesh goalie Russell Mahmud Liton.
Syria was sitting on a two goal cushion in the 14th minute with defender Mourad Al Ajnan floating a free kick from the left flank and midfielder Amro Jeniat headed home with a perfect spot jump.
Omar Khardin converted a penalty in the 45th minute after defender Nahid’s handball in the middle of the box prompted Iranian referee Mooud Bonaydafrad to point to the spot. Omar sent Russell in the wrong way.
In the 61st minute, Bangladesh forward Wahed made his way through the Syrian defence with a long ball of Jewel Rana but placed the ball over the crosspiece with Syrian goalie Abdul Latif Nassan well out of position.
Substitute forward Mahmoud Al Mawas scored the fourth in the 82nd minute with a neat placing shot on a through pass of Nassouh Nakhdahli, 4-0.
