Shaktiman Chakma, Chairman of Naniachar Upazila, was shot dead by miscreants in Rangamati on Thursday.
The Deceased was also a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS).
The incident took place around 11:00am.
Muhammad Abdul Latif, Officer-in-Charge of Naniarchar Police Station, confirmed the incident
He was rushed to Rangamati General Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
The victim’s driver Rupak Chakma was also injured during the incident, police said. He was later sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Members of UPDF allegedly fired randomly at Shaktiman Chakma and Organizing Secretary Rupam Chakma on the way to upazila office.
The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately, the OC added.
Meanwhile, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has asked the Rangamati Superintendent of Police to catch the assassins immediately for justice.
