An Upazila chairman in Feni has been killed when his car was set on fire on Tuesday, police say. Assistant Superintendent of Police Shamsul Alam Sarkar told bdnews24.com that miscreants attacked Phulgazi Upazlia Chairman Ekramul Haque around 11 am near Bilashi Cinema Hall in Feni town. His car was set to fire and Haque died on the spot, said the police official. The assailants hacked up four others in the car including the driver. All of them have been admitted to the Feni Sadar Hospital with cut wounds. Quoting witnesses, ASP Sarkar said that the miscreants suddenly blocked Ekram’s car and opened fire. “The miscreants hacked up Ekram and four others in the jeep before setting it on fire.” Police and fire-fighters recovered the Upazila chairman’s body from the burnt car. Ekram’s supporters ransacked shops in the area following the incident and forced them to shut down in Feni municipality area. Additional police forces and two platoons of Border Guards have been deployed in Feni town, where the situation is tense now.
