Traffic movement on Rajlaxmi-Azampur Road in Uttara remained suspended for four hours on Wednesday as the residents of Dakshinkhan area blocked the road demanding justice for a minor boy who was found dead in a water tank of a house in the area on Tuesday.
Locals alleged that when Rifat, 7, went to a house in the area for playing on Tuesday afternoon its owner Ajit Bosak beat him up severely, leaving him dead and then dumped his body in a water tank.
Being informed by people, police recovered the body.
Officer-in-Charge of Dakkhinhan Police Station Tapan Kumar Saha said a case was filed accusing the house owner and his wife with the police station on Tuesday night over the boy’s death.
The accused couple went into hiding after the incident, he said adding that action will be taken after proper investigation.
Meanwhile, Traffic Inspector of House Building area Asad said the protesters started staging demonstrations at 11 am demanding death penalty of the house owner.
Later, they blocked the road around 12:30 pm, triggering huge gridlock in the area and causing sufferings to the commuters.
Traffic movement on the road resumed around 4:20 pm when police dispersed the protesters.
