The Dhaka-Aricha highway, especially the Uthli-Paturia ferry link at Shibalaya Upazila, seems to have become a death trap. Here, many people are often killed in small and big accidents. Among them, many people including VIPs have died in various vehicle accidents including CNG auto rickshaws, hello bikes, buses, trucks, cars, motorcycles.
Accident rates are on the rise as there are no regular traffic police and no traffic jams at these three important intersections. In 2012, two secretaries were killed in a tragic private car accident with a truck at this intersection.
Barangail Highway Police TI said. Zakir Hossain said three people were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a Dhaka-bound reckless truck and a CNG at around 9am on Wednesday.
Local Oxford Academy teacher Fazlur Rahman (60), a CNG patient, has been admitted to Dhaka CMH in a coma. CNG driver Mosharraf (30) is undergoing treatment. The truck was seized but the driver escaped. Besides, regular operations are being carried out to curb the movement of illegal vehicles including three-wheelers.
