CU Correspondent :
The stalemate that continues at University of Science and Technology, Chittagong (USTC) for over two and a half months over 12-point demands of the university officials and employees is going to be resolved soon, hoped the agitators and the authorities.
Both sides claimed that they have reached an understanding over the issue recently in presence of a senior leader of Chittagong city unit Awami League.
A mass circular published, on behalf of the university authorities, in different local and national dailies on Wednesday read they (the authorities) agreed to fulfill all of the 12-point demands in the wake of repeated meetings with the protesters.
Dr Nina Islam, Member Secretary of the university, said, “We have always been sincere about paying the salaries and other benefits to the officials and employees, but the latter started raising protest that paralysed USTC, hanging the students’ academic life in balance.”
“Now, I hope they (agitators) would withdraw their programme soon,” she said.
Anwarul Islam Bappy, Secretary of Physicians, Teachers, Officers and Employees Association, the demonstrating platform, said though the USTC authorities assured them of meeting the demands, they were yet to find confidence.
