Publicity and Publication Affairs secretary of the ruling Awami League and former Environment Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said acting secretary general of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is a hired politician.
“Those who change jerseys like players in politics are hired politicians,” he said this on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city. The National Awami Party (NAP-Bhasani) organised the discussion on current politics at Bir Uttam Khwaza Nizamuddin auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity at Segunbagicha in the city marking its founding anniversary.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “Like humming of bees around beehives, Mirza Fakhrul Saheb and others switched over to BNP deserting NAP to enjoy General Ziaur Rahman’s leftovers of power. There are many hired politicians in BNP, not alone Mirza Fakhrul, who were involved in the politics of NAP or ultra-left Chinese-Moscow blocks and rightists.”
Pointing at Mirza Fakhrul, the Awami League leader said, “It’s not an offence to speak. But, it’s an offence for a person using offensive words holding a responsible post, likewise, personal attack in politics is also unethical.”
Terming the BNP-Jamaat combine’s gang of terrorists more ferocious than the Israeli force, Dr Hasan Mahmud said that the BNP-Jamaat combine let loose a reign of terror across the country between a period prior to the polls of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) and formation of the new Awami League government. They even set people on fire to death.
NAP-Bhasani president Mostaque Ahmed Bhasani chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by assistant secretary of Awami League sub-committee Advocate Balaram Poddar, Krishak League vice-president MA Karim, Kazi Masud and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana.
