Use rooftop for vegetable cultivation: Mayor

The city will turn into a green city as every roof top of the city buildings, schools, colleges and other infrastructures would be green by means of growing vegetables and flower orchards.
To turn the port city as ‘The Green City’, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has taken massive initiatives and following this part, the CCC firstly going to plant vegetables to the rooftop of Bangladesh Mohila Somitee School & College.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin in a press meet, held at KC’s Abdus Sattar auditorium at city building disclosed it, saying all the city would be a traditional, enlightened, healthy and green city by his tenure.
He also argued the city dwellers to cultivate vegetable on the rooftop of their residential buildings, saying it would bring economic benefit to them as well as congenial atmosphere for the future.
He asked the city dwellers to plant tomato, Chile, flower and other vegetables on the rooftop, saying the enthusiastic persons would be given training if they seek it.
“All the city walls would be adorned with the history of the prestigious liberation war with the help of the students of Fine & Arts Institute of Chittagong University” he added while placing his plane towards the journos about the rooftop garden campaign.
Footpath, midland, divider and the sides of road in the city including airport-road would be colorfully decorated, non-solar LED light would be installed on 58 kilometer road and parking space be fixed till my tenure, he emphasized.
The project director, Ali Mortaza said, initially hundred schools and colleges in the city would be come under the project and the students of those institution would be given training and be encouraged to grow vegetables at their rooftop.
Among others, chief planner of CCC, AKM Rezaul Karim and advisor to the Tilottoma Chittagong, Aminul Huq addressed here while, Abul Hossain, secretary of CCC and Asiful Islam Chowdhury present here.
