The National Jute Day was celebrated in different districts on Wednesday amid enthusiasm with a call to make jute goods popular among the people. This year’s theme of the day was ‘Golden Country of Golden Fibre (Sonali Asher Sonar Desh), Father of the Nation’s Bangladesh (Jatir Pitar Bangladesh)’.Marking the day, District Administration and the Department of Jute chalked out the elaborate programmes. Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj reports: Jute Department including Kishoreganj District Administration arranged a colourful rally, discussion, Jute Fair and prize distributing among the good farmers marking the National Jute Day on Wednesday.
A discussion meeting was held at local Collectorate Conference Room on Wednesday morning.
DC Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury and SP Md Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) were attended as chief and special guest while Deputy Secretary and ADC (G) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil in the chair.
It was addressed among others by Senior Scientific Officer Dr Babul Akhter, Assistant Director of Employment Exchange Md. Ali Akbor, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Chamber Vice-President Md. Alauddin, Women Leader Bilkis Begum, journalist Sohel Chowhdury, Jute businessman Abul Hashem, Jute Development Officer Akram Hossain and Magistrate Aklima Begum.
DC Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury said that the government has taken various initiatives and projects giving importance to producing multipurpose jute products for the development of the country’s jute a handout quoted.
SP Khaled BPM (Bar) said the present government will undertake all sorts of measures to make the jute sector a dynamic one. The good days of jute will come back and its market will extend again.
Later, a colourfull rally was brought out in the town led by DC Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury.
BSS from Gaibandha reports : National Jute Day-2019 was celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country on Wednesday amid enthusiasm with a call to make jute goods popular among the people.
This year’s theme of the day was ‘Golden Country of Golden Fibre (Sonali Asher Sonar Desh), Father of the Nation’s Bangladesh (Jatir Pitar Bangladesh)’.
Marking the day, the District Administration and the Department of Jute chalked out the elaborate programmes.
In the morning around 9am, a grand rally led by deputy commissioner (DC) M.Abdul Matin was brought out from Independence Square and ended in front of Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) after parading the main roads of the town.
Later, a discussion meeting was also held at the auditorium of ZSA with additional district magistrate Tofayel Hossain in the chair.
DC M. Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief guest and superintendent of police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah and additional
deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension Abul Kalam Azad were present at the event as the special guests.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by chief inspector of district jute office Mokbul Hossain Sarker, jute development officer M. Majedul Islam, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for the joint efforts of the government and the non government institutions to regain the past glory of jute.
DC Abdul Matin said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various initiatives, including modernization of the state owned jute mills, to bring back the glorious past of the jute sector.
The government has taken decision to provide incentives to those involved in the jute sector so that they can export more jute products, the DC also said.
A large number of people including farmers, students, teachers, invited guests, NGO activists and journalists attended the programmes.
BSS from Khulna says: Experts at a discussion here on Wednesday underscored the need for using jute packets to ensure safe environment.
They were addressing a discussion meeting marking the National Jute Day held at the conference room of Khulna Circuit House.
With the cooperation of the Directorate of Jute under the Textiles and Jute Ministry, Khulna district administration organised the meeting.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ziaur Rahman chaired the meeting while Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Pankaz Kanti Mozumder, Additional Police Super Md Badiuzzaman and General Manager of BJMC Gazi Shahadat Hossain also addressed the meeting, among others.
Assistant Director of the Directorate of Jute Md Sirazul Islam delivered the welcome speech.
Representatives of BJMC, Jute Goods Merchants Association of Khulna, Jute Goods Business Welfare Association of Khulna and Rice Mill Owners Association, among others, were present.
Earlier, a colourful procession was brought from city’s Shaheed Hadis Park and it ended come on Circuit House premises.
BSS from Rangpur reports: The present government is working sincerely to revive past glory of jute, the golden fibre of the country, through boosting its production and demand both at home and abroad.
Officials and experts made the observation on Wednesday at a post-rally discussion arranged at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city in observance of the National Jute Day-2019.
The district administration in association with the Directorate of Jute and Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) under the Ministry of Jute and Textiles organised the rally followed by the discussion.
Acting Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian attended the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir in the chair.
Acting President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hossain, Principal Scientific Officer of Rangpur Regional Station of BJRI Dr Abul Fazal Mollah, its Scientific Officer Mosahab Ali, District Training Officer of the Department of Agriculture Extension Md. Aftab Hossain, spoke as special guests.
The speakers said jute was the biggest export earning product for many decades and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman realised importance of jute for the first and nationalised all jute mills to accelerate growth of the jute sector.
Dr Abul Fazal Mollah said prospect of jute is brightening with increasing global demand of the eco-friendly fibre that is also being used as composite jute textile, construction materials for earthquake surviving houses, geo-textiles and many other proposes.
“The pragmatic initiatives taken by the present government have started reviving the past glory of jute and the jute sector as a whole through diversifying use and adding the eco-friendly commodity again to the export basket of the country,” he said.
Aftab Hossain said mandatory use of jute sacs during storage and transportation of paddy, rice, wheat, maize, fertilisers, sugar, green chili, ginger, turmeric, garlic, pulses and coriander, potato, flour and rice leftovers is also increasing local use of the golden fibre.
The chief guest suggested for increasing multi-dimensional use of jute and reviving past glory of the golden fibre through enhancing its cultivation, production and export of raw jute and jute-made products also to further strengthen the national economy.

They viewed forging social resistance against use of plastic bags has become an urgent need for protecting the environment from further degradation. They also emphasised on wide-ranging promotion of jute bagsinstead of the polythene bags.
Use of plastic bags by the wholesale traders, vegetable vendors and other shops has been growing despite the ban on the use, production and storing of the environment-harming plastic bags.
The observation came at a post-rally discussion for the compulsory use of jute in packaging products held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner Office here on Wednesday. The District Administration and the Department of Jute jointly organised the rally and discussion to mark the ‘National Jute Day- 2019’.
Government and non-government officials and owners of the paddy, rice and automatic rice mills and businessmen attended the programmes.
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader the meeting was addressed, among others, by Additional District Magistrate Alamgir Kabir, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension Shamsul Haque, Project Head of Rajshahi Jute Mills Engineer Ziaul Haque and Assistant Director of Department of Jute Moriam Begum.
The discussants unanimously mentioned that the present government is working sincerely to revive past glory of jute, the golden fibre of the country, through boosting its production and demand both at home and abroad.
Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader said the used polythene bags eventually find their ways into drains, canals, rivers, parks and streets harming the environment.
He said mobile courts will be conducted against the use of plastic bags to enforce the Mandatory Jute Packaging law 2010. He also urged the participating businessmen to supplement the government agencies in this regard.
