The first One-Day International between the USA and Ireland scheduled for today has been cancelled due to a positive case of Covid-19 in the umpiring team. A net bowler not part of the squad has also tested positive from the USA camp.
This has resulted in no official being available for the first ODI with three out of the four testing negative, but having been in close contact with the positive case has ruled them out of the clash too.
“Cricket Ireland will continue to work closely with USA Cricket, alongside the ICC, to ensure the remainder of the series can continue, if safe to do so,” a USA Cricket release said on Saturday (December 25).
Cricbuzz also understands that a call on the remainder of the series will be taken on December 26 after another round of testing. Currently, the players are in isolation and flying down officials from the Caribbean is being contemplated. For now though, the second and third ODIs, scheduled for December 28 and 30, will go ahead as planned, a release from USA cricket stated.
