Staff Reporter :The United States of America has agreed to extend its cooperation in combating human trafficking from Bangladesh.Terming the issue of human trafficking ‘very sad’, US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bloom Bernicat on Sunday said, “It’s unfortunate. Hope, the government of Bangladesh will take quick steps in this regard. And if the country [Bangladesh] seeks any cooperation, the US will provide necessary help.” The US envoy made the assurance while talking to newsmen after paying a courtesy call on State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haq Chunnu at his Secretariat office in city.About the meeting, she said, “We have discussed labour right, working atmosphere and safety, instruction of trade union and other related issues. It is important to reduce tariff in exporting RMG goods from Bangladesh. We will raise the proposal in the US Congress. The government [of Bangladesh] has achieved significant progress after the Rana Plaza tragedy.” On the other hand, Labour Minister Mujibul Haq Chunnu said there was no specific agenda. “It was my first meeting after I took charge of Labour Ministry”, he said.
